Assistance Programs FAQs For Patients For Providers

Our Mission

HERS Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is to support all individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and services, regardless of financial status.

The “HERS” in our name represents what we strive to restore in every patient we serve:

  • HOPE — Belief in a promising future.
  • EMPOWERMENT — Strength and knowledge for the journey ahead.
  • RENEWAL — Restored self-image and physical healing.
  • SUPPORT — A community of compassion, aid, and advocacy.

Patients who are low income, under-insured, or uninsured who are interested in applying for assistance for the programs and products listed below should call (510) 790-1911 and request our assistance application form.

Our Assistance Programs

WE Support, YOU Survive

This program provides post-surgical camisoles which provide support and comfort during the weeks following mastectomy surgery as well as specialty pocketed wire-free bras in beautiful colors and designs and breast prosthetics in a range of materials.

When worn together, pocketed bras and breast prosthetics restore a mastectomy patient’s silhouette, self-confidence, and balance. Our bras are also appreciated by patients who have undergone reconstruction surgery since their wire-free designs and materials are exceedingly comfortable. Our trained Breast Care Specialists provide assessment and fitting services for these products.

Lymphedema Project

Lymphedema is a condition that arises in an estimated 40% or more of breast cancer patients following mastectomy surgery with lymph node removal. It can also develop due to radiation damage to lymph nodes. The condition can develop soon after surgery or years later and causes swelling of the soft tissues of the arm, hand, back, and/or chest as well as pain, reduced range of motion, risk of skin infection, and a feeling of limb heaviness.

While lymphedema is not a life-threatening condition, if left untreated, it can significantly impact a patient’s physical health. It can also impact a patient’s emotional health due to changes in physical appearance, lifestyle, and activities. This project provides assessment and fitting services for compression arm sleeves, bras, gloves, and gauntlets that can provide relief.

Hair With Care

Hair with Care provides patients and survivors the opportunity to be fitted with a wig in a supportive, caring, and understanding environment – one in which patients’ needs and concerns come first.

Losing one’s hair can be extremely difficult for breast cancer patients to process. Our team is here to help lift a patient’s’ spirits while working diligently to find a full or partial wig in a style that best fulfills the patient’s desired style and look, while restoring their confidence.
