Thanks to all who joined us on April 28, 2011 as we honored Bay Area people who make a difference.
HBCF held its second annual People with Purpose Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton San Jose, in Milpitas, on April 28, 2011, honoring four people from the breast cancer arena for their efforts and contributions to the organization. A huge heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who attended. The funds raised will go toward our programs, including We Support…YOU Survive, which serves low income women.
Our Master of Ceremonies was Channel 2 KTVU Weekend News Co-Anchor Heather Holmes, who has graciously participated in a number of previous HBCF events. Our keynote speaker, best-selling author and breast cancer survivor Bo Caldwell, addressed the crowd with heartfelt insights as to how her experiences with breast cancer diagnosis and treatment affected her life, as well as her writing. Mike Elson spoke of his wife’s interactions with the staff at Bras for Body & Soul®, and how meaningful it was as part of their experience in coping with her cancer diagnosis.
Our 2011 honorees were:
- Hope Award – Susan Buseck, MSW, Breast Care Coordinator, Kaiser Permanente
- Empowerment Award – Vandana B. Sharma, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Oncologist, Valley Medical Oncology Consultants, Medical Director for the Washington Hospital Cancer Genetics Clinic
- Renewal Award – Rina Olea, Manager of Programs and Outreach, Breast Cancer Connections
